Born
in 1952 in Seattle, Washington, Barbara began her art career in the backyard
making mud pies. Many years later at the University of Southern California,
she was still enjoying the feeling of clay on her hands. After receiving a degree
in fine arts in 1974, she began designing and painting tile for residences and
commercial spaces. Over the years in addition to painting tile, she has worked
with watercolor, ceramics, fabric, and glass. In 2003 she even painted a tile
swimsuit on a life sized buffalo sculpture as part of a public art project on
Catalina Island. Do you get the idea, she loves tile?
Some of her tile installations include:
Sheraton Molokai Hotel, HI
San Pedro Neighborhood Facility, CA
Seacliff Village, Huntington Beach, CA
Town and Country Shopping Center, Encino, CA
Lawry’s California Center, Los Angeles, CA
Many private commissions
