About Us

Life in the small town of Avalon is unique.  Our family history on Catalina Island inspires us with stories and folk tales dating back to 1908 when our grandparents first arrived.  The strong bond that we have with this place and these stories makes us proud to run a small business that keeps the character and history of the island alive. We have created the Steamer Trunk to reflect the beauty and eclectic nature of "island life."  Welcome aboard.

The sign hanging on our storefront is an exact replica of the S.S. Catalina. This ship was responsible for bringing millions of visitors to the island over a 51-year span. The lavish Steamer symbolized the height of old Hollywood glamour.  From 1930-1940 it was an iconic sign of the island. The S. S. Catalina carried presidents, Big Band musicians, actresses and heiresses the "26 miles across the sea."  Islanders associate the great white Steamer with the golden days when kids dove for coins cast from its passengers and sophisticated couples paraded through town on their way to the Casino ballroom. We use the ship as our namesake in homage to the many memories, unique discoveries and classic style that is part of our rich Catalina history.
