This is a segment from a tile design that was produced on the island from 1927-1936 by the Catalina Clay Products Company. Many original pieces can still be seen on a walk about Avalon.
Our artist is a native Californian with longstanding ties to the island. She hand paints and then kiln fires Italian quarry tiles to 1800 degrees (which means they make perfect trivets!) Actually they have all sorts of uses on walls, in tables, on stairway risers, as accent pieces, and of course, as perfect souvenirs from Catalina.
